In January, San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith won a bet and made Macklin Celebrini wear his Boston College Jersey. Against the Boston Bruins on Saturday, Celebrini finally got his revenge.

But what took Celebrini so long to pay off his winning bet?

“The game happened during the break, and then we went on a 17-day road trip,” Celebrini explained postgame. “Then I had no way to get the jersey until now.”

The Sharks forward poked fun at his rookie partner, saying the former BC Eagle actually liked the BU jersey more.

“He told me that the BU jersey is the BC Jersey. Yeah, he said that to me,” Celebrini said with a wide and very sly smile.

The San Jose Sharks rookies went on to have a terrific game in the 3-1 win. Celebrini finished the game with two assists, and Smith had one assist. Lucas Carlsson scored the game-winning goal with just over three minutes left in the third period. It was Carlsson’s first NHL game since Nov. 1, 2022, and first since he tore his ACL.
