Former San Jose Sharks defenseman Cody Ceci joined rare NHL air this season after playing 85 regular-season games.

Now playing for the Dallas Stars in the postseason, Ceci is tied for second all-time in the most games played in a single season.

In 54 games for the Sharks, Ceci scored four goals and 11 assists. He was a staple next to Jake Walman on the top defense pair. Ceci and Walman were tasked with topping the opposing team’s best players every night.

The Sharks traded for Ceci during the 2024 offseason, and the Edmonton Oilers acquired Ty Emberson in the same trade. San Jose also received a 3rd-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Bob Kudelski and Jimmy Carson are tied for the most games in a season with 86. Kudelski did so during the 1993-94 season with the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers. Carson achieved the 86-game feat during the 1992-93 season. Carson played 52 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings.

Ceci has remained steady for the Stars, playing 20:14 a night. The former Sharks d-man will need to step up in the playoffs as Dallas begins its series against the Colorado Avalanche without Miro Heiskanen.

Colorado beat Dallas 5-1 in game one behind a 23-save performance from former San Jose Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood.
