San Jose Sharks defensemen Henry Thrun and Jan Rutta are dealing with injuries that will keep them out for an extended period.

Thrun is dealing with an upper-body injury that kept him out of the final four games of the Sharks’ seven-game road trip. He was activated from injured reserve and played against the New York Islanders on Saturday. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Thrun re-aggravated his injury and will miss some time.

“I don’t think it’s day-to-day, and I can’t really say it’s week-to-week. It is somewhere in the middle,” Warsofsky said. “He’s still getting evaluated today, so we will have a better idea tomorrow.”

San Jose recalled defenseman Jimmy Schuldt from the San Jose Barracuda on Monday.

Rutta has missed the last 14 games with a lower-body injury and is not close to skating.

“He’s not even skating,” Warsofsky said. “We’re going to reassess at the end of the week. [That’s] really where we’re at, but he’s weeks away.”

Rutta is a pending unrestricted free agent after this season. Warsofsky’s comments about the veteran d-man don’t bring confidence for a return at some point this season.

The 34-year-old has played 51 games this season and has two goals and six assists.

Tyler Toffoli was absent from San Jose Sharks practice on Monday and will be a game-time decision on Tuesday with a lower-body injury against the Nashville Predators.
