Will Smith, Macklin Celebrini, and Tyler Toffoli are the San Jose Sharks’ top line against the Edmonton Oilers.

The ‘Sleepover’ line is the trio’s nickname due to an iconic moment when all three players scored in a game against the Buffalo Sabres. Toffoli, the veteran, spent the night in the same room as the rookies.

Toffoli and Celebrini have often been on the same line throughout the season, but never this trio until Tuesday night in Anaheim.

Although the San Jose Sharks’ top line had some decent offensive chances, they often struggled, especially defensively.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky pulled the forwards aside following Thursday’s morning skate to communicate what he wanted to see against Edmonton.

“It was about, we got to play defense tonight,” Warsofsky said. “They have to lead the charge in that area. I think it’s contagious to the rest of our group.”

Toffoli is a responsible veteran in the NHL, while Celebrini and Smith are still rookies learning the NHL. Smith is also adjusting to playing the wing after being a center for his entire career.

Celebrini’s line could see a lot of Leon Draisaitl or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as a defensive matchup.
