Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey avoided serious injury, a source told SHD.

Barkey plays in the Ontario Hockey League for the London Knights. The Flyers’ 2023 3rd-round pick was named captain this season. Barkey was in the midst of a standout OHL Playoffs scoring run. Before his injury, Barkey had nine goals and 11 assists in nine games for London.

On April 25 in game one against the Kitchener Rangers, Barkey was hit in the corner and appeared to have his left skate caught on the ice. The forward seemed in a lot of pain and couldn’t bear any weight on his leg.

Luckily for Barkey, London, and the Philadelphia Flyers, the winger only suffered a high ankle sprain. The Knights swept the OHL West Finals, but Barkey remains out in the OHL Championship series.

Per the source, the Knights want Barkey to rest for as long as possible. London is 12-0 in the postseason and appears to be headed to the Memorial Cup for the second straight season.

San Jose Sharks prospects Kasper Halttunen and Sam Dickinson are teammates of Barkey on London. Dickinson was named OHL Defenseman of the Year while Barkey was named OHL Humanitarian of the Year.

A return timeline for the Philadelphia Flyers prospect hasn’t been established. Despite that, the source told SHD, “The more rest, the better. He just doesn’t need to play until he has to.”
