
The San Jose Sharks have moved up to second overall in the 2026 NHL Draft from ninth overall after the lottery proved to be in their favor.
The 2026 NHL Draft Lottery was held in New Jersey and saw the Toronto Maple Leafs win the first overall pick in 2026. The Sharks weren’t to be outdone, as the combination 11-4-3-7 proved to be victorious.
This will mark the second straight season the San Jose Sharks will select 2nd-overall. During the 2025 NHL Draft, San Jose selected Michael Misa.
Top draft prospects Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg could be the first two players taken in this Summer’s draft. The Buffalo Sabres will host the draft at the KeyBank Center from June 26-27.
Sharks GM Mike Grier told reporters during his exit interview that he expects to select the best player available and not for positional need. He is open to moving the pick if the right trade comes to him, but that might change with these results.
