With the preseason halfway over, the San Jose Sharks have continued their roster trimming and cut 13 players from the training camp roster.
Five forwards, four defensemen, and one goalie were all assigned to the San Jose Barracuda Wednesday morning.
Forwards:
Andre Gasseau
Samuel Huo
Donovan Houle
Anthony Vincent
Carson Wetsch
Defensemen:
Roland McKeown
Mack Oliphant
Leo Sahlin-Wallenius
Phillip Sinn
Goalie:
Matt Davis
Forwards Ethan Cardwell, Ty Felhaber and defenseman Libor Hajek have been placed on NHL waivers.
These 12 cuts have reduced the San Jose Sharks roster to just one practice group. Since training camp began last Thursday, the team has had two practice groups. Prospects don’t get as much of a chance this season due to the shorter training camp, but players like Gasseau, Wetsch, and LSW stood out.
Wetsch and Gasseau played two preseason games, both showing promise. They were also the Sharks’ stars at the 2026 Rookie Faceoff. Although neither scored in the preseason, they left a lasting impression on head coach Ryan Warsofsky.
“I’d say his skill. I think he’s got more skill than [we realized],” Warsofsky said about Gasseau. “He can make plays with pace. You know, he’s not afraid to get in there and be physical. He’s got a good foundation for becoming a pro hockey player, which has impressed me.”
Gasseau hasn’t played a single professional hockey game, but looks poised to be a top call-up option after some time in the AHL. Plus, the San Jose Sharks have a forward logjam.
