The San Jose Sharks used two 4th-round picks to draft defensemen in the 2025 NHL Draft.

With the 115th pick, the Sharks selected Ilyas Magomedsultanov. With the 124th pick, the Sharks took Zachary Sharp.

Magomedsultanov played in the Russian Junior League in 2024-2025. The 6’2 left-handed defenseman had one goal and six assists in 40 games. Given how late he was taken at the 2025 NHL Draft, the new Sharks prospect will take time before he arrives in North America.

“Magomedsultanov kills play early in the sequence, spotting puck carriers as they exit the zone and enveloping them with his four-way mobility and range. He disrupts rushes and barely gives time to attackers to make plays in the defensive zone, closing on them as soon as they get the puck,” Elite Prospects 2025 Draft Guide wrote.

Magomedsultanov is the second defenseman taken by the San Jose Sharks on day two of the draft. The Sharks used pick No. 33 to select Haoxi (Simon) Wang.

Sharp is another left-handed defenseman who played for Western Michigan last season. In 42 games, Sharp scored five goals and four assists. At 20 years old, Sharp was initially eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft, but was not selected.

“Sharp is an activator, never passing up an opportunity to join the play. He flies up the weak to become a lead pass option, sprints the middle to take a forward’s role, and becomes the trailer. He blends his activation into gap control. When moving, he gets early stops, pushes attackers to the perimeter, and neutralizes off-puck threats.” -EliteProspects 2023 NHL Draft Guide.
