San Jose Sharks prospect Danil Gushchin scored the game-winning overtime goal in the San Jose Barracuda’s 2-1 game two win over the Colorado Eagles.
Just 27 seconds into the extra period, Collin Graf and Gushchin combined for a power-play goal to push the Barracuda to a game two win.
Gushchin drew the penalty late in the third period, eventually leading to the game-winning goal. The Sharks prospect displayed his poise with the puck by eluding a sliding defender. The original goal was to send a cross-ice pass to Pavol Regenda, but the penalty happened before he could pass.
While writing this, Graf is currently getting credit for the goal, but Gushchin was the last San Jose Barracuda player to touch the puck.
Regenda was part of the scoring on Sunday night, scoring a big game-tying goal at 18:12 of the second period. After creating a neutral zone turnover, Regenda and Colin White went in two-on-none. The duo played it perfectly and scored a goal top-shelf over Eagles goalie Trent Minor.
Regenda’s SHG was the second shortie in as many games for the Barracuda. Filip Bystedt scored a shorthanded goal in game one with a breakaway.
Top San Jose Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov was dynamic on Sunday. The 22-year-old made 27 saves on 28 shots. He made some unbelievable saves, including on a wrap-around in the third period that was reviewed but ruled no goal.
AHL MVP Andrew Poturalski remains out with a lower-body injury but could return during the second round. The San Jose Barracuda will now have to win two of the next three games on the road as the series shifts to Colorado.
Game three is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT at Blue Arena in Loveland, Colorado.
