San Jose Sharks and San Jose Barracuda forward Andrew Poturalski has won the Les Cunningham Award for the AHL’s Most Valuable Player.
This marks the first time in Poturalski’s AHL career that he’s won MVP. The veteran is a two-time Calder Cup champion and three-time AHL scoring leader, including this season.
Despite missing the season’s final three weeks, Poturalski’s 73 points (30 goals, 43 assists) in 59 games led the league. Poturalski also played three games with the Sharks in the NHL this season and registered an assist.
The San Jose Sharks signed the 31-year-old to a two-year contract, hoping to lead the Barracuda back to the Calder Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2021. That goal was accomplished as the ‘Cuda defeated the Ontario Reign in game one of the first round on Thursday.
Poturalski is dealing with a lower-body injury and is considered week-to-week per Barracuda head coach John McCarthy.
