The San Jose Sharks have traded Thomas Bordeleau to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Shane Bowers.
Bordeleau received a qualifying offer from the Sharks on Monday, which may be seen as somewhat of a surprise. With this trade now completed, that decision makes sense.
Sharks GM Mike Grier was able to recoup some value for the former second-round pick.
Bordeleau had voiced some frustration following the season about a lack of NHL opportunity. He played one game late in the NHL in 24-25 and suffered a concussion in that game.
Bowers, 25, was taken in the first round, 28th overall, by the Ottawa Senators. He has played 13 career NHL games (12 with NJ, 1 with COL) and hasn’t registered a point. In 63 games with the Utica Comets in the AHL last season, Bowers scored three goals and 14 assists.
