The San Jose Sharks announced on Thursday that they have signed defense prospect Eric Pohlkamp to an entry-level contract.

In the announcement, the Sharks explain they’ve signed the 22-year-old d-man to a two-year contract. Although the announcement didn’t say when the contract begins, PuckPedia broke down the deal, stating that it begins in the 26-27 season. Pohlkamp will not make his NHL debut for the Sharks on Thursday, the final game of the 25-26 regular season.

SHD first reported the Hobey Baker Award finalist’s interest in signing with the Sharks following the University of Denver’s National Championship win.

It is unclear whether the Sharks signed Pohlkamp to an Amateur Tryout for the remainder of this season, which would allow him to play for the San Jose Barracuda.

In 43 games with Denver, Pohlkamp led all NCAA D-1 defensemen in goals with 18 and also recorded 21 assists. The Sharks drafted Pohlkamp in the 5th round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
