San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini has already made headlines this season with his play; now that’s getting recognized.
On Tuesday, the NHL began announcing the finalists for the annual NHL Awards, starting with the Ted Lindsay Award. Although similar to the Hart Trophy for NHL MVP, the Ted Lindsay Award is voted on by NHLPA members. This means amongst players in the NHL, they voted the San Jose Sharks superstar as one of the best three players in 2025-26.
The other finalists for this season’s Ted Lindsay Award are Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov.
Celebrini finished the regular season fourth in the NHL in scoring behind Nathan MacKinnon, Kucherov, and McDavid. Although he might be a long shot to win, being nominated by his peers as one of the top 3 players is quite an achievement.
Only one other teenager has won the Ted Lindsay Award, Sidney Crosby (2006-07). Should Celebrini win the award, he would become just the second teen in NHL history to win. He also became just the fourth member of the San Jose Sharks to be nominated for this award.
Celebrini joins Joe Thornton (2005-06), Brent Burns (2016-17), and Erik Karlsson (2022-23) as the only players in Sharks history to be a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award.
Given that the NHLPA votes on this award, the breakdown in votes won’t be made public. After scoring 115 points at 19, Celebrini is getting recognition from more than just the media. He’s clearly viewed as a top player in the NHL by his opponents.
The winners of this year’s NHL Awards and more will be announced at a later date. Celebrini could be in the running to be a nominee for the Hart Trophy. The announcement of those nominees will be on Friday, May 8th.
