MONTREAL — The San Jose Sharks will look to build on their last game with a second straight win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Coach Ryan Warsofsky confirms top prospect Igor Chernyshov to be in Saturday’s lineup. The winger skated on the left wing of the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. Although it hasn’t really happened before, coach Warsofsky told reporters that the lines could be different come gametime.
The San Jose Sharks have a few players who are considered game-time decisions, but Warsofsky would not reveal who.
Alex Nedeljkovic was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate, so he is expected to start in goal. Laurent Brossoit, who was recalled due to the Yaroslav Askarov injury, could start against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
“Really comfortable [playing him]. That’s why we traded for him. Give us some depth for this situation,” Warsofsky said about Brossoit’s potential to play. “He’s been playing some really good hockey down there for the Barracuda, so we’ll see if we’ll see him.”
Warsofsky did not confirm Sunday’s starter, but he did confirm that Askarov won’t play. The San Jose Sharks coach deemed the goalie day-to-day and still considers his injury minor.
A Saturday night at the Bell Centre will be a tough atmosphere for the Sharks, but Warsofsky is ready for his team to take on the challenge.
“Keep our game simple and control our emotions. We don’t need to make a home run play in the first 30 seconds. Let’s play some small ball and support the puck,” Warsofsky explained. “Let’s get our legs into it. There’s no better place to be than Saturday night in Montreal, so let’s enjoy it.”
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
