San Jose Sharks forwards William Eklund and Alexander Wennberg have been officially named to Team Sweden’s 2025 IIHF World Championship roster.
Sweden announced its entire roster, which includes mostly NHL players. Two former Sharks, who no longer play in North America, were named Marcus Sorensen and Tim Heed.
Sorensen last played for San Jose in the 2020-21 season. The winger was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2010, but never played a game for them. In 226 games for the Sharks, Sorensen had 31 goals and 33 assists.
Sorensen’s best season with the Sharks was during 2018-19. In 80 games, the winger scored a career-high 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) and was plus-10. He scored five goals and seven assists in 34 playoff games for the Sharks.
The winger played for Sweden during the 2024 World Championship and didn’t register a point in eight games.
Heed spent four seasons with the Sharks, playing in 105 games. The defenseman showed flashes of being a productive offensive defenseman, but could never find a foothold in the NHL. In 105 games, Heed scored six goals and 23 assists.
Heed’s best season with the Sharks organization came in 2016-17. In 55 games for the San Jose Barracuda, the defenseman scored 56 points (14 goals, 42 assists) in 55 games.
The defenseman also played for Sweden during the 2024 World Championship and had three assists in ten games.
