The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent forward Mason Marchment to a five-year contract, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.

UPDATE: The Sharks have officially announced the contract as a five-year deal worth $6.75 million AAV.

Marchment played the 25-26 season with the Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets. After scoring 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 29 games with the Kraken, Marchment was traded to CBJ and found his game. In 39 games, Marchment had 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists).

Marchment’s father, Bryan, was a scout for the San Jose Sharks from 2008 until his sudden passing in July of 2022. The undrafted winger was spotted around the Sharks’ practice facility during his childhood.

This isn’t the first time the Sharks have been interested in acquiring Marchment. Rumors of a trade involving the Dallas Stars began last season, and eventually, the winger was moved to the Kraken.

The San Jose Sharks add a 6-foot-5, 212 lbs winger who can score. The 23-24 season was his best offensive season, scoring 53 points (22 goals, 31 assists). Although offense isn’t his calling card, Marchment is also very responsible defensively. In 370 career games, Marchment has a career +81.
