Sharks Free Agent Targets: Brock Boeser

With the 2025 NHL off-season looming, the San Jose Sharks will be players in some of the league’s top unrestricted free agents.

Sharks GM Mike Grier says he’ll be active this summer, but will do his best not to overspend. Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser could be a good fit for San Jose.

In Daily Faceoff’s latest list of the top 50 free agents, Boeser checks in at No. 2. The 28-year-old forward has spent his entire eight-year career with the Canucks and has been a top producer for them.

Boeser scored a career-high 40 goals in 81 games in 23-24, but his production dropped like the rest of his team in 24-25. In 75 games, Boeser scored 25 goals and 25 assists.

Boeser has always had the offensive talent to be a 40-goal scorer, but injuries and a lot of changes to the Canucks coaching staff have hurt his consistency.

Like the San Jose Sharks signing Tyler Toffoli, Boeser would be a welcome addition. The Sharks finished last in the NHL with 202 goals. While that number is up from last season’s total (180), San Jose needs to add quality shooters to its lineup.

Boeser projects to fit the Sharks’ ideal free agent price

AFP Analytics projected the next contract of each free agent on DFO’s list. Boeser’s projected contract was $8.5 million AAV for six years.

The Sharks should be highly interested if the 28-year-old isn’t looking for maximum term on his contract. Grier doesn’t want to shell out seven to eight-year contracts, especially to a player in their late 20s.

Reports suggest Boeser is waiting for the Canucks to hire their next head coach before deciding on if he should leave or not. Whoever the next coach is will be Boeser’s fifth coach in nine seasons. San Jose Sharks prospect Thomas Bordeleau has dealt with similar changes and said it wasn’t ideal.

The Sharks intend to move Will Smith back to center next season, meaning a quality winger will be needed for him. Like Toffoli did for Macklin Celebrini, Boeser could be the veteran goal scorer to take the weight off Smith.

Free agency begins on July 1, and if Boeser is on the open market, the Sharks could be part of a long list of interested teams.
