San Jose Sharks star rookie Macklin Celebrini grew up dreaming of playing in Rogers Arena and now he’s got his first career goal against his childhood team, the Vancouver Canucks.

Celebrini gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 4:20 of the second period with a power-play goal over the shoulder of the Canucks goalie Nikita Tolopilo.

“Yeah [100%],” Celebrini said postgame about if he dreamed of scoring this goal. “I remember being a kid skating around with my brothers, so that was a cool moment.”

“Scoring in this building is pretty cool,” Celebrini said.

Celebrini now leads all NHL rookies in goals with 25 but has only played 68 games due to his early-season lower-body injury.

The 18-year-old grew up in Vancouver and told SHD that he dreamed of playing with his brothers, RJ and Aiden.

“That’s what we are all dreaming of,” Celebrini said about the Sharks eventually drafting his youngest brother RJ. “I don’t know [if we’d have great chemistry]. I’ve never played with him.”

Luca Cagnoni, recalled by the San Jose Sharks on Monday, is also playing in his first NHL game in his hometown. Cagnoni grew up in Burnaby, BC, and registered his second career assist on Celebrini’s goal.
