Veteran free agent signing John Klingberg missed practice today for the San Jose Sharks.

The veteran defenseman suffered an upper-body injury during the preseason opener, a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Ryan Warsofsky told reporters that Klingberg should be considered day-to-day.

Klingberg signed a one-year $4 million contract with the Sharks this summer. The defenseman last played with the Edmonton Oilers. In 19 playoff games with Edmonton, Klingberg had one goal and three assists.

The 33-year-old’s injury story is an interesting one. Klingberg had dealt with significant injuries in both hips. Klingberg told reporters that he has arthritis in both hips, but had his best summer of training in multiple years.

Luckily for the San Jose Sharks, Klingberg’s upper-body injury isn’t related to his hips.

The Sharks worked on the power play for the first time at training camp. Klingberg scored a power-play goal in the first preseason game. Top prospect Sam Dickinson ran the top unit at practice on Tuesday.

Klingberg is doubtful to play in the Sharks’ second preseason game on Friday.
