NEW YORK – The San Jose Sharks enter Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers with a record of 0-4-2 in 2025-26.
While they’ve lost six straight games to begin the season, their losing streak extends into the 2024-25 season. The last time the Sharks won a game was on March 27th, 2025, against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith scored their first career shootout goals in the 6-5 win. Since then, the team has lost a staggering 17 consecutive games. In those games, the San Jose Sharks have a record of 0-12-5.
The NHL record for most consecutive losses overall is 18, by the 2021 Buffalo Sabres and the 2004 Pittsburgh Penguins.
This 17-game losing streak isn’t the franchise’s first either. San Jose similarly lost 17 consecutive games at the end of the 22-23 season and into the start of the 23-24 season.
While the Sharks have a long way to go to reach the longest losing streak to begin a season —11, which would tie the record for most consecutive losses to start a season— the overall losing streak is not a record any NHL team wants to be part of.
Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky called his shot following the 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday. He told reporters during his postgame scrum that Thursday would be the team’s first win.
