San Jose Sharks rookie Macklin Celebrini has been attached to the hip of Sidney Crosby at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
Team Canada immediately put the Sharks’ rookie with the future Hall of Famer, and chemistry was found quickly. Celebrini looks up to Crosby as his hockey idol, which could be helping the chemistry.
During Canada’s 5-3 win over Sweden on Tuesday, Crosby fed Celebrini a beautiful breakaway pass for the eventual game-winning goal.
Celebrini has willingly and understandably moved to the wing despite both players being natural centers. That hasn’t stopped the production. Crosby has four goals and seven assists. Celebrini has three goals, three assists, and is +9.
“It’s been great,” Macklin Celebrini said to NHLDotCom’s Aaron Vickers.. “I’ve been having a lot of fun. I’m really enjoying the group and the team we have. I think we get along really well and have fun playing with each other.”
Hockey media members are also amazed by the instant chemistry that Celebrini and Crosby are displaying.
Canada finished the tournament’s group stage with a 6-0-1 record, putting them in first place in Group A. Macklin Celebrini still hasn’t faced his best friend and fellow San Jose Sharks teammate Will Smith during the tournament.
Team Canada will play against Denmark in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
