Florida Panthers veteran forward Brad Marchand had some fun calling out NHL teams on Thursday, including the San Jose Sharks.
Marchand went on an Instagram story tirade during what looked to be a team celebration dinner. The 38-year-old won his second Stanley Cup after he was traded to Florida from the Boston Bruins.
Marchand didn’t get every single player, but he called out a lot of teams. Former Sharks forwards Nico Sturm and Jonah Gadjovich were at the dinner. Each getting their picture on Marchand’s story, where he tagged the San Jose Sharks to thank them for not retaining the player.
The Sharks also traded Vitek Vanecek to the Panthers at the trade deadline. The goaltender did not appear in Marchand’s story.
Marchand didn’t hold back when posting on his story. The veteran went through nearly every player on the roster. Three players, Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Anton Lundell, were drafted by the previous general manager, Dale Tallon. Marchand didn’t forget to thank him for drafting them.
He even went on to thank the Winnipeg Jets for letting head coach Paul Maurice walk. He also thanked the Columbus Blue Jackets for allowing current Panthers GM Bill Zito to join the organization.
The veteran forward certainly enjoyed his night out. Now, Marchand appears to be headed for unrestricted free agency on July 1st. Given the stage of his career, Marchand might look for a place where he can balance a payday and another chance at a Stanley Cup.
It would be surprising if the San Jose Sharks were able to sway Marchand, but they certainly have the cap space to throw money at him if they wanted.
