With the 53rd overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks select Cole McKinney.

McKinney played in the USNTDP last season and scored 61 points (27 goals, 31 assists) in 60 games. The forward is expected to play for the University of Michigan in 25-26.

“Night in and night out, McKinney brings the same high-end attention to detail and determination. Forcing turnover after turnover, he never stops engaging opponents. He pushes them into support, to the walls, and traps them. With proactive physicality and a strong stick, he rips away possession from bigger opponents and puts his team right back on the attack,” Elite Prospects says in its scouting report of the newest San Jose Sharks forward.

McKinney is the second Sharks prospect taken during the 2025 NHL Draft second round. At No. 33, the Sharks selected Haoxi (Simon) Wang.
