The San Jose Sharks won’t be in the playoffs, but their American Hockey League affiliate will be.

The San Jose Barracuda punched their ticket to the Calder Cup Playoffs on April 11, but didn’t know who their first-round opponent would be.

After a 4-0 loss to the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday, the Sharks’ prospects will take on the Ontario Reign in a best-of-three series.

This season, the Barracuda went 3-5 against the Reign. Their final game against the Reign didn’t go well. Sharks fans were treated to a 4-0 drubbing on fan appreciation night.

The San Jose Sharks prospects will not host a home game during the first round either. Ontario, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will host games one and two at Crypto.com Arena. If the series gets to a third game, it will be at Toyota Arena, their normal AHL home.

Top Sharks prospects like Filip Bystedt, Quentin Musty, Igor Chernyshov, and Luca Cagnoni will taste playoff hockey. This is the first time since 2019 that the Barracuda have made the postseason.
