The San Jose Sharks recalled Thomas Bordeleau on Saturday.

The move for Bordeleau provides the Sharks forward with a significant opportunity to prove him self in the NHL. However, questions now remain as to why he was recalled.

With the San Jose Barracuda officially clinching a playoff berth on Friday, Bordeleau could be getting a look in the NHL with little to play for remaining in the AHL.

Another reason could be an injury that might’ve happened in the San Jose Sharks 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. The Sharks did not have a practice today. Coach Ryan Warsofsky will meet with the media on Sunday.

After starting the season with an injury, Bordeleau has again found his offensive game. In 59 games for the ‘Cuda, Bordeleau has 14 goals and 24 assists. Despite the strong season, the Sharks forward is mired in a cold spell with no points in the past eight games.

Nikolai Kovalenko has gotten significant run on the Sharks’ top line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith and has played well. Because of that, Bordeleau likely won’t get top-line minutes. Bordeleau’s spot in the lineup will be monitored closely.

San Jose is dealing with multiple injuries to their defense, but calling up the former second-round pick will provide another injection of youth.
