San Jose Sharks prospects Quentin Musty and Filip Bystedt are the two players in the news following the San Jose Barracuda’s 4-0 loss to the Ontario Reign on Saturday.
Musty made his professional hockey debut and performed well. He showed some skill and offensive instinct, but he still showed he had more to learn. Barracuda head coach John McCarthy was happy with his performance.

“Can make a play, skated well,” McCarthy said postgame. “Generate some time and space for himself.”
The 2023 first-round pick played on a line with Filip Bystedt and Ethan Cardwell. The ‘Cuda got off to a slow start but eventually started to generate offense. Unfortunately for the Sharks’ minor league affiliate, they ran into a very hot goalie.
Carter George made his professional hockey debut for Ontario and posted a 33-save shutout.
McCarthy agreed with reporters about whether Musty looked comfortable during the offensive rush.

“I thought he was actually pretty good managing the puck,” McCarthy said. “He [had] the one turnover that we took the penalty on, but he had the right idea.”
Filip Bystedt can’t catch a break
San Jose Sharks’ 2022 first-round pick Filip Bystedt left the game with another injury on Saturday. The forward recently returned from an upper-body injury that kept him out from Feb. 19 to April 4.
With 3:32 remaining in the third period, Bystedt was taken dangerously to the boards by Glenn Gadwin with no call.

The hit looked high, and Bystedt did not put any weight on his left leg as he left the ice. McCarthy did not have an update on Bystedt’s status postgame.

When asked about the non-penalty call, McCarthy said he didn’t see the hit and had no time to review the play before meeting with the media.
Bystedt has been enjoying a solid first full season in pro hockey with 11 goals and 30 points in 48 games.
