San Jose Sharks forward Ryan Reaves scored his first goal for his new team in spectacular fashion.

The fourth-liner, not known for his hands, took the puck down the left boards, cut in front of Anaheim Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson to get to the crease. He then fired a wrist shot that beat Petr Mrazek on the glove side.

What won’t be talked about enough on this goal was Barclay Goodrow’s hit on Ryan Poehling. The San Jose Sharks winger was able to knock Poehling off the puck, allowing Reaves to skate into the puck with speed.

The Sharks wouldn’t keep their 2-0 goal lead for long as Cutter Gauthier scored 41 seconds after Reaves. Beckett Sennecke would later tie the game up with a power play goal.

Reaves took the first shift after the game was tied and dropped the gloves with Ross Johnston. Johnston, 6-5, and Reaves, 6-2, then dealt each other haymakers along the boards.

Once the fight had settled down, Reaves asked the fans at SAP Center to make some noise. San Jose Sharks fans obliged.

Reaves is now on Gordie Howe hat trick watch after the first period. If Reaves can earn an assist, it will be just the second Gordie Howe hat-trick of his career. The only other time he achieved that feat was in 2023, while playing for the Minnesota Wild.
