The San Jose Sharks announced they have re-signed defenseman Shakir Mukhamdullin to a one-year, $1 million contract extension.
The 23-year-old defense prospect is coming off a year that saw him play a career high 30 NHL games in 24-25. Mukhamadullin had two goals and seven assists.
“Shakir earned the opportunity to be a part of the Sharks, and was able to get some valuable experience playing against quality opponents that helped aid his development,” Sharks GM Mike Grier said in a statement. “We look forward to his continued growth in the upcoming season.”
Mukhamadullin’s season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a shoulder injury against the Anaheim Ducks on April 1st.
The d-man required surgery on his shoulder, but is expected to be ready for the start of the 25-26 season. Mukhamadullin also dealt with an injury to start the 2024-2025 campaign. That ailment led to him missing San Jose Sharks’ training camp.
With defenseman Jan Rutta set to become an unrestricted free agent, the Sharks will need Mukhamadullin to fill his shutdown role. Rutta missed 27 consecutive games late last season, and despite playing on his off-side, Mukhamadullin shined.
Mario Ferraro, who only has one year remaining on his current deal, and Mukhamadullin were often the top pair of defense for the San Jose Sharks.
