San Jose Sharks superstar Macklin Celebrini has taken the hockey world by storm, both among fans and among his peers.

Future Hall of Famer and now teammate for the second time at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Sidney Crosby has offered nothing but immense praise for the 19-year-old. Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Dean Evason met with reporters before his team played the Sharks and spoke about Celebrini.

Evason was Team Canada’s head coach at the 2025 IIHF World Championships. Evason says that once Crosby agreed to play at Worlds, he asked him who he wanted to play with. Crosby’s answer was Celebrini.

“He’s not only a great player, obviously, physically, but his compete level is as high as anyone’s,” Evason said about the San Jose Sharks star. “[It] said a lot about [him] when Sidney Crosby came over, we asked him, who would you like to play with? And he said Celebrini.”

The praise for Celebrini didn’t stop there from Evason. While he wrapped up his praise for Celebrini, Evason also praised the Sharks team, saying the rest of the roster is good.

“He’s a special player that obviously we’re gonna have to look after,” Evason said. “But they’ve got a lot of real good players. They’re playing well. They didn’t play well the other night, so they’ll be ready. We will have to as well.”

Could Celebrini happen to play with Crosby at the Olympics? Well, that is a question for Team Canada’s Olympic head coach Jon Cooper.
