The San Jose Sharks have announced the signing of veteran forward Jeff Skinner to a one-year contract.
Skinner’s deal is worth $3 million against the Sharks’ salary cap.
Skinner played with the Edmonton Oilers last season, scoring 16 goals and 13 assists in 72 games. The former All-Star and Calder Trophy Winner hadn’t played a single Stanley Cup Playoff game until last season.
In 15 NHL seasons, Skinner has scored 30 or more goals in six seasons. During the 2018-19 season, Skinner scored 40 goals.
The San Jose Sharks were in the market for a top-nine forward, according to GM Mike Grier. Skinner fits the mold of a top-nine forward perfectly.
He’s a proven scorer in the NHL, and while his play declined last season, a better opportunity with the Sharks could help him re-find his scoring touch.
