Macklin Celebrini wasn’t the only player on the San Jose Sharks to receive votes from PHWA members for the NHL Awards this season.

Veteran forward Tyler Toffoli received one 3rd-place vote for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. The Lady Byng is given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

L.A. Kings captain Anze Kopitar was the recipient of this season’s Lady Byng. The Kings’ center has now won the award three times in his career.

Toffoli fits the mold for consideration for the Lady Byng Trophy with his play this season. The Sharks winger scored 30 goals for the third straight season. He finished with 14 PIMs and was a mentor to Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.

Upon signing with the San Jose Sharks last summer, Toffoli instantly became a leader on the ice. With Logan Couture out for the entire season and eventually announcing his retirement, Toffoli was given an ‘A’ on his jersey.

Toffoli is a highly respected player in the NHL. The Sharks brought him into their rebuild plans with the hope that he could change the culture and bring quality play. With three years left on his contract, Toffoli still has a lot to give to the San Jose Sharks.

Philadelphia Flyers writer Kevin Kurz from The Athletic was the only media member to vote for Toffoli.
