Here is the transcript of Grier’s opening statement regarding Celebrini being named captain.

“I’d just like to thank all you guys for coming. It’s a very special and important day for the organization here. We’ve been fortunate through the years to have a lot of great players lead this franchise. Very first captain here: Doug Wilson, Owen Nolan, Patty Marleau, Joe Thornton, Rob Blake, Joe Pavelski, and Logan Couture. All great people and great players.”

“Now, we’re very lucky to have a special player, but more importantly, a special person who’s ready to lead the next generation of Sharks hockey. With that, I’d like to officially announce the new captain of the San Jose Sharks, Macklin Celebrini.”
