San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky led USA Hockey to a gold medal at the IIHF World Championship, but won’t be part of the Olympic team’s coaching staff.

Team USA announced its full staff for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which includes former Sharks head coach David Quinn.

Warsofsky’s ties to head coach Mike Sullivan and Quinn run deep. Sullivan’s parents are Warsofsky’s godparents.

Warsofsky has attributed a lot of his coaching pathway to Sullivan and his guidance. Quinn and Sullivan met in college and have been connected since, which roped Warsofsky into a relationship with Quinn.

Quinn helped Warsofsky achieve his NHL dreams by hiring him as an assistant coach for the San Jose Sharks.

Warsofsky helped achieve a feat by winning gold for Team USA at Worlds for the first time in 92 years, yet he doesn’t have a role for the Olympics. Sure, Warsofsky’s first season as an NHL head coach only amassed 20 wins, but his players played for him, and systems seemed to work.

The Sharks lacked experience, skill, and maturity, whereas the Olympic team will be filled with NHL stars. While he won’t get a shot in the 2026 Olympics, Warsofsky deserves to be part of the conversation for any USA Hockey best-on-best events in the future.
