OTTAWA — San Jose Sharks No. 2 center Alexander Wennberg will not play against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday due to an upper-body injury.

Wennberg, 31, has had a very productive second season with the Sharks in 25-26. The centerman has 13 goals and 30 assists. The Sharks rewarded his strong play with a three-year contract extension. Philipp Kurashev will re-enter the Sharks’ lineup in Wennberg’s place.

The San Jose Sharks centerman did not come onto the ice when warm-up started at the Canadian Tire Centre. As line rushes went through, Michael Misa and his line took the second rotation, meaning the 2025 NHL Draft No. 2 overall pick could be in for a big usage night.

Wennberg has averaged 20:37 of ice time a game this season, but over the last three games, his average TOI has been slightly down.

3/12 v. Boston Bruins: played 18:32
3/14 v. Montreal Canadiens: 16:45

San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky alluded to a potential injury during his pregame media, saying that there were some game-time decisions.

Warsofsky could provide an update after the game. This story will be updated.
