San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund is eligible for an extension on July 1st, and the work to keep him around has already begun.

According to Sheng Peng, Eklund’s agent, Todd Diamond, and Sharks GM Mike Grier were spotted at the Draft Combine discussing Eklund’s next contract.

“William is happy in San Jose and excited for the future of the club,” Diamond told Peng. “He got his cast off yesterday and is able to slowly start training for the 2025-26 season.”

Eklund suffered a serious wrist injury that led him to miss the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Sweden. The cut on his wrist required surgery. As SHD reported, once the Sharks winger got the cast off, more intense workouts could start.

Eklund’s next contract with the San Jose Sharks is hard to project. It’s encouraging to see Eklund and the front office working towards a deal. Waiting for his final year to play out could lead to questions about their future together.

The 22-year-old is coming off a career season offensively. Eklund scored 17 goals and 41 assists in 77 games.

With the San Jose Sharks and William Eklund seemingly having a good relationship, the two look to stay together for the foreseeable future.
