San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund will not participate in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, SHD has learned.
According to Eklund’s agent, the winger will be replaced on the roster. The Swedish National team is expected to announce this tomorrow.
Eklund is expected to be ready and healthy for the Sharks’ 2025-26 season training camp.
The San Jose Sharks forward suffered a cut on his wrist during a pre-tournament game against Czechia. Eklund went into a board battle with Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek. Hronek’s skate caught Eklund’s left wrist while the d-man was off balance.
Eklund’s agent informed SJHN that no major tendons or nerves were damaged. The Sharks winger is injured but likely avoided a possible career-ending injury.
During an announcement today on X, the forward was listed on Sweden’s official Roster.
Eklund will miss his chance to play for Sweden, with the tournament being played primarily in his home nation. It’s a tough break for the 22-year-old, who is coming off a career season with 17 goals and 41 assists in 77 games.
