The San Jose Barracuda are one win away from moving on to the second round in the Calder Cup Playoffs after their 2-0 victory over the Ontario Reign.
An utterly dominant third period pushed the Cuda to the win, as they only allowed one shot on goal. The highlights of the night were the goals from Pavol Regenda and Filip Bystedt (PPG) and Yaroslav Askarov’s 17-save shutout.
What followed afterward was the opening up of the playoff slogan for the Barracuda. During his postgame press conference, Regenda sported a shirt with the slogan “Be a pig.”
But what does it mean? Regenda, Askarov, Luca Cagnoni, and San Jose Barracuda coach John McCarthy explained postgame to SJHN’s Sheng Peng.
“The pig [is] a sacrifice for breakfast, like you have bacon. You gotta kill the pig. So it’s the biggest sacrifice, we’re gonna sacrifice for each other on the ice,” Ragenda said.
“Put your body on the line for anything, for your brothers,” Cagnoni said.
“I can’t explain. I’m not American,” Askarov joked.
“Just something that we talk about with the team, about commitment,” McCarthy said.
Shades of the hit TV show Ted Lasso are seen with the “Be a pig” slogan. Lasso always told his team to “Be a goldfish” because they have a ten-second memory, making them the happiest animal on the planet.
Game two will be Saturday at 6 p.m. PST. With another win, the Barracuda can advance to the next round and eventually host a home playoff game for the first time at Tech CU Arena.
