Kevin Labanc’s NHL career will get another shot to revive itself as the former San Jose Sharks forward signed a Professional Try-Out with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Labanc signed a PTO with the New Jersey Devils last summer, but ultimately signed a one-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets after a good preseason performance.

The Sharks poached a few former Hurricanes via trades and free agency this summer. Top free agent signing and likely No. 1 D-man Dmitry Orlov spent the last two seasons in Carolina. Other former Hurricanes include Jeff Skinner and Alex Nedeljkovic.

Labanc, 29, will play at least four games in the 2025 NHL preseason, a source tells SHD. Part of the reason for signing a PTO with the Hurricanes is the opportunity that coach Rod Brind’Amour gives players on try-out deals.

The former San Jose Sharks winger played just 34 games for the Blue Jackets last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. In 34 games, Labanc scored two goals and 10 assists.
