Team Canada will officially announce its roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday, but reports are already coming out about the status of San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini.
Per ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, Celebrini has made Team Canada’s roster.
While it isn’t official, the season the 19-year-old is having is special. His Sharks teammates rave about his ability and leadership. Against the Anaheim Ducks, Celebrini scored a goal and two assists, and now leads the NHL in games where he’s scored 3+ points with 10.
Celebrini’s season is so spectacular that he’s got more games with at least 3 points than with no points (9). In just 39 games this season, Celebrini has 60 points (21 goals, 39 assists). He should be at the forefront of any MVP conversation with Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid.
“I feel like every game he gets to another level. Yes, it’s pretty amazing. I know we look at the stats, and I don’t even know some of them, but you see Gretzky’s name,” San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said. “What we do need to understand is that we are seeing something pretty special right before our eyes. I know our fans see it, and the rest of the National Hockey League sees it. This kid is a special individual.”
On what feels like a nightly basis, Celebrini is achieving records that haven’t been touched since Wayne Gretzky or Sidney Crosby.
Again, the official announcement will not come until Wednesday morning when Team Canada announces its roster, but Kaplan is a reliable source for NHL news.
