San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini made his Team Canada senior team debut at the 2025 IIHF World Championship on Saturday.
The 2024 No. 1 pick has worked with Pittsburgh Penguins legend and hockey idol Sidney Crosby. Celebrini got to do what he’s been waiting to do his whole life: play on the same team with Crosby.
Celebrini was also moved to the wing, as Crosby is his centerman.
The San Jose Sharks forward had an assist in Canada’s 4-0 win over Slovakia on New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson’s goal.
Celebrini finished the game with just 12:43 on ice, but he was effective during his shifts. Crosby played 21:13 in his first game at the World Championship since 2015.
The San Jose Sharks forward must put on a strong performance in what looks to be a somewhat limited role. The 2026 Olympic Games are approaching, and Celebrini is vying for a spot.
Canada Head Coach Dean Evason wasn’t shy about toying with his lines during different situations. At one point, the Sharks forward was on a line with Nathan MacKinnon and Crosby.
The Sharks’ 18-year-old is playing on a Team Canada roster that features many players who project to play in the Olympics. Being around these players will benefit Celebrini, but he will also learn a winning culture surrounding Team Canada.
