San Jose Sharks prospect Quentin Musty suffered a facial injury before training camp opened and has resumed skating on his own.

Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said the 21-year-old has begun skating on his own as he recovers.

“He’s been skating here the last couple of days on his own,” Warsofsky said on Tuesday. “That’s a step in the right direction.”

Musty was poised to push for an NHL roster spot this training camp before the injury. During the 2026 Rookie Face-Off, the Sharks prospect was a step above many of the players on the ice. After the first day of training camp, GM Mike Grier told reporters that the winger’s injury could take months to heal.

“We got a couple long-term ones that you guys won’t see for a while,” Grier said during the first day of camp. “Keyser and Musty, they’ll be out for a while. They’re both upper-body injuries, and they’ll be out for a while. I wouldn’t expect to see them for a couple of months at least.”

The San Jose Sharks are dealing with their own injury problems at the NHL level, with Igor Chernyshov and Alexander Wennberg both out week to week. While unlikely, if Musty returns before those two, he could stay on the NHL roster. With Musty still technically with the big club, the Sharks can get an extended look at the 2023 NHL Draft 1st-round pick.

“He’s in here in the mornings and working hard, and it’s good to see him in good spirits,” Warsofsky said.

No other timeline was provided for when Musty could potentially return.
