San Jose Sharks star winger William Eklund left Sweden’s game against Czechia at the Czech Hockey Games with a scary-looking injury.

Eklund went into a board battle with Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek. Hronek’s skate awkwardly went into the air as he fell forward, appearing to cut Eklund’s wrist.

The San Jose Sharks forward was in a ton of pain and immediately went to the bench for medical attention.

Eklund played just 13:06 in Sweden’s eventual 4-2 win. During the first game of the Czech Hockey Games, Eklund played 19:17 and scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

Per Sportbladet, the Sharks winger was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now received more clarity regarding the severity of the Sharks forward’s injury.

“He’s stable,” Todd Diamond, Eklund’s agent, told Peng. “Looks like it didn’t cut key tendons or nerves at the moment.”

Eklund did not return to the game following the injury. The 2025 IIHF World Championship is scheduled to begin on May 9th.
