San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky is good friends with Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery and applauded him and Alex Ovechkin for easily handling NHL history.
Ovechkin ended his chase of Wayne Gretzky and scored his 895th career goal, putting him solely into first place all-time.

Ovechkin matched Gretzky’s goal total in one less career game and passed him by one in the same number of games, 1,487.
Carbery is only in his second season behind the Captials bench, but that hasn’t stopped him from developing a terrific feel for his roster. Building a relationship with a player like Ovechkin can take time, but not for Carbery.
“I think the relationship started two years ago. You build that relationship every day. I know he’s done a really good job of building that relationship with Ovechkin,” Warsofsky said. “You see the communication. You see how they play. The social media stuff you guys see as well. So, yeah, he’s done a really good job.”
The duo’s communication was fully displayed after Carbery asked Ovechkin if he wanted to go for an empty-net goal on Friday.

Ovechkin chasing history has taken over NHL headlines the entire season, yet the Capitals lead the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference.
“He’s done a remarkable job. I’m probably biased because he’s one of my best friends. That’s not easy to go into games,” Warsofsky said. “They’ve already clinched a playoff spot. They gotta get Ovi his goals and whatnot, but they still have to win hockey games. Keep their habits, playing the right way.”
Warsofsky told reporters he had met Ovechkin when he faced the San Jose Sharks and showered him with compliments.
“I’ve met him when we played against him He is the nicest guy there is. I think what he does for this sport, even off the ice, just as well as on the ice, is remarkable. What he’s done for the sport and grown the sport is remarkable.”
