While Michael Misa seems like the obvious pick at No. 2 for the San Jose Sharks, GM Mike Grier will decide what to do with the team’s other first-round selection.
A trade is undoubtedly on the table for the Sharks; a few prospects are viable options to draft. London Knights defenseman Henry Brzustewicz comes to mind for the Sharks.
As a right-shot d-man, Brzustewicz immediately jumps on the table for San Jose. Other top Sharks defense prospects, including Luca Cagnoni, Shakir Mukhamadullin, and London Knights’ teammate Sam Dickinson, are all left-handed.
In 62 games this season, Brzustewicz scored ten goals and 32 assists. With Dickinson’s expected arrival with the San Jose Sharks next season and Oliver Bonk to the Philadelphia Flyers, Brzustewicz could take a top-pair role.
“Brzustewicz is a smart, mobile right-shot who adds a steady two-way game to a Sharks system that needs quality blueliners,” The Athletic wrote in its Mock Draft.
With San Jose dropping to number two at the 2025 NHL Draft and likely missing out on top-ranked Matthew Schaefer, finding a top-flight defenseman will be harder.
Brzustewicz had a strong draft year, but among the most notable draft rankings, he could slip to the second round. NHL Central Scouting ranks Brzustewicz as the 19th-best North American skater. Daily Faceoff ranks the 18-year-old 48th, and Eliteprospects slotted him 38th overall.
After the draft lottery, Grier told reporters that he feels the team isn’t ready to start drafting for specific positions yet.
“I don’t think we’re at the point where we’re just going to draft for need. I think we’ll just pick the best player on our board,” Grier said.
